The Boss of You

It's a book. It's a blog. It's a guide to running a business your way

Back in the saddle

We’re back! Back from a month-long blogging hiatus (more on that later), back from a short trip to Seattle (to see Felicia’s book reading, hooray!), and back to focusing on this book we’ve got coming out in a few short months.

We’ve spent the last couple of weeks trying to get this site moved from a very old version of Movable Type into a brand-spankin’-new Wordpress site. We had to do pitched battle to export our archived blog posts, thanks to mountains of comment spam that were cluttering up the joint. But thanks to a friend of a friend — thanks, Steve! — we got everything ported over. We’re hoping to find the time to make things look a little swishier around here, soon, but for now we are breathing a sigh of relief that we didn’t have to copy & paste every single archived entry by hand.

Another change coming down the pipe is that we are going to be dropping the “Boss Lady” moniker. We love it, and we know many of you do, too, but we chose it because we hoped that was gonna be our book title — and it isn’t, so it’s time to move on to something less confusing. We’ll be unveiling the new site as soon as I can scrounge some time to make it look pretty, and sort out this export/import issue.

So: Why have we been so quiet of late? Well, our excuses are legion. For one, though it’s an admittedly tired old tune, things over at Raised Eyebrow have been très hectic. Historically, January has been a slow month for us, but this year has been different; we came back from holidays and were greeted with a shocking, though certainly welcome, amount of new work.

January also saw the arrival of the final edit of our book manuscript. We wrapped up the last round of proofreading a couple of weeks ago — and let me tell you, all the stories we heard from our writer friends were true. We were so tired of reading our own words by the time the final edit arrived that it was near-impossible to focus closely enough to notice punctuation problems. Fortunately, I’m pretty certain that my lifelong obsession with spelling and grammar carried me through.

There’s so much to do, and not nearly enough hours in the day to do it all, but I’m determined to get back in the habit of posting here regularly, so watch this space. And if you have requests for topics you’d like to see us cover here, please drop us a line in the comments!

Thanks, Jennifer! We loved “Boss Lady” too, but we like our new title, “The Boss of You”, just fine. The word “lady” has such different connotations to different people, and I totally respect that. We felt it was nice and sassy, but some people read it as snooty, old-fashioned, or just plain outdated, and we certainly don’t want to turn people off before they even crack the book open. :)

I’d love to hear people’s thoughts on the new title…
