San Francisco Tips

April 16th, 2009 by Emira · 4 Comments

I’m taking a hop down to San Francisco next week for a conference and have tacked on a few extra days ahead of time to explore the city. There was a time when I regularly visit San Fran and the Bay Area, but that time feels like forever ago and so I’m looking for recommendations from you our lovely readers for places to visit. In particular, one of the things I love to do when visiting a city is check out small, locally run businesses (and you’ll be in no way surprised to hear that I have a thing for women run businesses in particular). So, if you have favourite haunts or if you yourself run a small shop in San Fran please let me know in the comments. I’d love to check out some new things and don’t have loads of time for discovery on my own.

I highly (and selfishly) recommend looking at http://girlsguidetocitylife.com/sanfrancisco/. The uber-talented writer and finder of great & local design, Anh-Minh Le shares a lot of her finds on the site.

I worked in the city for 6+ years and miss it regularly. When we visit now I always go to Chinatown b/c we don’t have one where we live. There are too many places — don’t know where to start.

Might want to check out the blog: http://sfgirlbybay.blogspot.com/ — she makes me nostalgic for the city and has some really good links.

I just discovered you through d*s (and the timing couldn’t be better for me… I look forward to reading your blog and your book!). I suspect you’re already in SF or your visit has come and gone. Hope you have Tartine Bakery and the Ferry Plaza on your list!
